We're always looking for volunteers. And we'd love to help out if you're in a jam, either way visit us on the Help Hub Website.
What's the Help Hub?
The Help Hub was created in response to what we heard when knocking doors during the 2024 get-out-the-vote effort. Some Durhamites told us that they only saw us every 2-4 years when we asked for their vote. Where were we the rest of the time? Why bother voting? This was difficult and valuable feedback. It highlighted the need to be visible and impactful in an on-going way that provides value to Durham communities.
How does it work?
-
People in the pilot precinct make a request for assistance with a basic need. Requests come in by voicemail from the phone number on our yard signs, by direct referral from trusted neighborhood leaders, or by face-to-face encounters at neighborhood events like National Night Out.
-
Volunteer Help Captains field these requests within 24 hours. They work with participants to clearly define the help that is needed and then search for resources using a digital resource library.
-
If more expertise is needed, the participant is handed off to an Expert Navigator. Navigators are volunteers who have work or life experience, knowledge, and contacts in a particular area of need. They use their experience to connect participants with the best resources and the right people to meet their needs.
